The 2021 Outdoor Camp is designed to help foster a love of the outdoors in your child, while also teaching them about our local and regional ecological neighborhood.

Activities include:
Fishing, crabbing, hiking, marsh exploration, kayaking, swimming, environmental education, beach time, Ropes course/swamp adventures at Swamp Park in OIB

Projected Weekly Schedule-Activities always subject to change due to availability or weather
Monday- Hiking area trails, such as Carolina Beach State Park, Brunswick Nature Park, and/or the Basin Trail at Fort Fisher, while learning about the plants and animals along the way.

Tuesday- We travel to the Swamp Park in Ocean Isle Beach for a day of climbing around the trees on their ropes courses, with the talented course guides at the Swamp Park.

Wednesday- Usually the most popular day of the week, we set up on a marsh island behind Masonboro Island, where one half of the group gets to swim, explore, fish, and cast/dip net, while the other half of the group learns to kayak and takes the short paddle over to a very remote part of Masonboro Island, before switching up in the afternoon! We have paddled around dolphins and even manatees on these days!

Thursday- We take the short drive over to the Surf City Fishing Pier, where the kids can get some good pier fishing experience.  We have caught black drum, pompano, flounder, and many other types of fish on these days.  Then we will head over to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital for a tour!

Friday- We spend the morning in the marsh, in some of our favorite crabbing spots, using the magic of a fish head, some string, and a net to catch blue crabs.  They have to be quick with that net! We will also spend some time at a real oyster farm and learn what it takes to be an oyster farmer.  We finish our week of camp with either dock jumping on Banks Channel or some beach time.

It definitely can be hot during the summer, so most days include some cool off time at the beach!

Drop off/pick up point will be announced at a later date but is usually the large parking lot next to Chili's on S. College Rd. (old K-Mart).

Maximum group size: 14       Ages: 9-12

Covid 19 Information
To combat the transmission of Covid-19, all campers will be required to wear a mask in the van when traveling from place to place. Camp counselors disinfect the van 2-3 times each camp day, and hand sanitizer is given to each camper each time they enter the van.  Fortunately, the outdoors is the perfect place to socially distant and we will be reminding campers to keep their distance, as well.  As part of the forms for camp, there will be a liability waiver on which you will acknowledge the risk of Covid-19 for your child.  Temperatures of campers will also be taken each morning at drop off.

Cancellation Policy- Full payments are due by June 1st.  If Covid-19 causes a shutdown of summer camps, full refunds will be given.  If you need to cancel, full refunds will be given before May 15th (with a $25 processing fee).  After May 15th and up to 7 days before your camp date, we will refund all of your money minus the camp deposit (and a $25 processing fee).  No refunds will be given within 7 days of your camp week, however we are glad to offer you a credit on any of our outdoor services.

Please understand that our camps are kept small to facilitate learning and safety, and many fill up quickly. Last-minute cancellations keep other kids from enjoying our camps. Thank you for your understanding.
