Coastal Adventures Camp- Ages 9-12
2023 Camp Dates
|
The 2023 Coastal Adventures Camp is designed to help foster a love of the outdoors in your child, while also teaching them about our local and regional ecological neighborhood.
Activities include:
Fishing, crabbing, hiking, marsh exploration, kayaking, swimming, environmental education, beach time, learning to drive a boat, ropes course/swamp adventures at Swamp Park in OIB
Projected Weekly Schedule-Activities always subject to change due to availability or weather
Monday- Hiking area trails, such as Carolina Beach State Park, Brunswick Nature Park, and/or the Basin Trail at Fort Fisher, while learning about the plants and animals along the way.
Tuesday- We travel to the Swamp Park in Ocean Isle Beach for a day of climbing around the trees on their ropes courses, with the talented course guides at the Swamp Park.
Wednesday- Usually the most popular day of the week, we set up on a marsh island behind Masonboro Island, where one half of the group gets to swim, explore, fish, and cast/dip net, while the other half of the group learns to kayak and takes the short paddle over to a very remote part of Masonboro Island, before switching up in the afternoon! We have paddled around dolphins and even manatees on these days!
Thursday- We take the short drive over to the Surf City Fishing Pier, where the kids can get some good pier fishing experience. We have caught black drum, pompano, flounder, and many other types of fish on these days. Then we will head over to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital for a tour!
Friday- We spend the morning in the marsh, in some of our favorite crabbing spots, using the magic of a fish head, some string, and a net to catch blue crabs. They have to be quick with that net! We finish our week of camp with either dock jumping on Banks Channel or some beach time.
It definitely can be hot during the summer, so most days include some cool off time at the beach!
