1. WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE YOU LOCATED AND WHERE WILL WE GO?
Our business doesn't have a set physical location and is not based out of one place. There are just too many great places in our area to show you. Once you book your trip, we get in touch with you with where to meet us, what to bring, what to expect, etc. We may leave from Fort Fisher for a trip into the Zeke's Island Nature Reserve. We may paddle into the Masonboro Island Reserve and visit a hard-to-get-to part of beautiful Masonboro Island. We can go on a very peaceful paddle in the quiet waters of Whiskey Creek, Hewlett's Creek, or Bradley Creek, just off the Intracoastal Waterway. We can take you to see Wrightsville Beach or Carolina Beach from a water perspective. The possibilities go on and on.
2. Why do I need a guide? Can't I just rent your kayaks?
Kayaking the coast of North Carolina isn't like kayaking in a river or lake. The constant motion of the tides, as well as the usual presence of wind, can make what is supposed to be peaceful and relaxing, exhausting and boring. In addition, some of the coolest places in our area take some local knowledge to get to, due to ever changing sandbars. Our job as guides is to take you to the best places, in the quietest water, with the least effort, so you and your family can have a relaxing, memory filled outing.
Don't believe me? Spend some time at a kayak rental business and look at the faces of the people returning that didn't have a guide…
3. What's up with the weather? It looks like it's going to storm!
Weather in the south during the summer can best be described as unpredictable, especially here on the coast. So when you see a 20-40% chance of thunderstorms on the forecast, that's because that is the forecast basically EVERY DAY from the beginning of May to the end of September.
We've gotten pretty good at knowing what the weather is going to throw at us each day. Go ahead and book a trip with us and trust us when we say that it's probably going to be BEAUTIFUL. If the weather doesn't look good for the time that you are supposed to be on the water with us, we will call you in advance and try to get you rescheduled for a better day or time. If it isn't possible to reschedule you, you will absolutely get your deposit back!
4. What if I don't think I'm in good enough physical condition for kayaking? What about kids?
Outside of extreme age and physical condition situations, we can make a trip work for just about anyone. We can customize the length and location of a trip to fit you and your family. Our trips are a great experience for kids. Environmental education and coastal outdoor skills are included in all of our excursions, and our two person kayaks mean that they can come along, even if they aren't quite ready to do all of the paddling.
5. What kind of things can we do on the boat for the Ultimate Boat Day?
It's your trip so whatever you want! After you book, we will contact you to find out if you want to hang out on the islands, float around Wrightsville or Carolina Beach, have us pull you on the tube, go crabbing or exploring the marsh, or just anchor up and have a good time! Whatever you choose, we can promise that you are going to have an amazing time!
6. I've never camped before. Is your island camping a good option for me?
Camping on Masonboro Island is an awesome experience. Sleeping to the sound of the surf, amazing view of the stars, fishing for your dinner.....its something everyone should try. With that said, it is quite a PRIMITIVE camping experience so it definitely wouldn't be the best choice for your first time camping.. Try camping at a state park or campground. If you like that, give us a call and we'll set you up for a great time on the island!
7. It didn't say where to meet you when I booked my kayak excursion or boat charter online. Where do I meet you?
We leave from various spots around Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, and Fort Fisher. When you book, unless you have a specific spot in mind, we choose your launch location based on wind, tide, parking, and boat traffic. Some trips are not available on weekends due to parking issues or too much boat traffic. We want to keep you safe and make sure you have a good time! We will be in touch a couple of days out from your excursion with all of the details, including where to meet us!
