Outdoor Guide
We are looking for part time Outdoor Guides to join our team for our outdoor excursion and summer camp season! Our excursion season starts in March and runs into November (sometimes later).
Hours will usually be around 15-20 per week (maybe less in cooler months, the opportunity for more in warmer months). We are flexible with schedules but we are looking for someone for two different shifts:
-Weekday morning (can have you done by 2pm)/Weekend availability
-Weekday afternoon/evening/weekend availability
What does a guide do?
-Safely lead kayak tours of groups from 2-10 people (bigger groups get two guides) in local waters, providing excellent paddling assistance and instruction, as well as local ecosystem and history knowledge
-Load/unload kayaks and sometimes clean equipment
-Assist Summer Camp Counselors with kayaking activities for summer camp groups
-Assist with logistical support for summer camps
-Assist with field trips to Masonboro Island
-Set up "Island Days" or island camping for groups on Masonboro Island
-Assist Afterschool Counselors with various outdoor activities
Our PERFECT candidate:
-Strong paddling ability and knowledge of safety on the water (please make skills/experience clear when you apply)
-General knowledge of the local ecosystem and local history
-A big personality, friendly and personable
-Ability to drive and back a truck and trailer, while navigating busy traffic, boat ramps, and parks
-Ability to lift 60 pounds
-In good physical condition, as kayaking and loading/unloading kayaks can require strong physical activity
-A strong desire to help people have a great time and make positive lifelong memories
-The ability to connect with kids
-A Captain's license would be a huge bonus
-A clean background check/driving record is a must. Please don't waste our time!
Starting pay is $16/hr and goes up from there, and you will find that the tips can be outstanding!
Training for this position will start in March. Training is paid at $10 per hour and tips will begin once you start running kayak trips on your own. We can teach you the job BUT YOU MUST ALREADY BE A GREAT PADDLER! Unfortunately, we do not have time to teach you how to paddle.
Please email resume and cover letter to [email protected]
